Kuta, Bali, Indonesia, (0361)-751422
After an easy two hour bus journey from Ubud we jumped out on the main strip of the famous Kuta beach area. This south-western beach strip is well known for it's consistently good surf breaks, long sandy beach, multitude of bars and restaurants (ranging from swanky to skanky) and also, sadly, for the 2002 & 2005 terrorist bombings. Most things you read will tell you that Bali and Kuta particularly has been slow to recover from these two attacks and whilst that may well be true most of the bea...
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia willndebsArriving back in Kuta, basking in the glory of our recently aquired diving skills, we headed to Made's Warung for dinner - Made is one of the four Balinese names and a Warung is traditional street side eating booth. While it's inclusion in certain guide books has caused the restuarant to move on a bit from it's traditional roots - in the size of the building, the menu and the bills! - it was still a good meal out and was certainly a popular spot. The next day we headed the 100 meters back to ...
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia willndebs... can sit on a beach in Bali and listen to an Indonesian say hello and how are you and the basics in fluent Irish - his accent wasn’t half bad either! However the evening was interrupted somewhat by Miriam when after a stroll to the toilets came running back to the beach, fortunately rescuing me from the chore of being on my own with a very exciting surprise she said.
I grabbed my bag and we rushed back in the direction of the road. I saw them from across the street ...

Anyways, after five minutes on the road, we’re scanning the bevy of roadside stalls for a “petrol” station. Upon finding a promising shack, we dismount from the bikes and go in search of the vendor. When we do find the saleslady/cashier/cook/gas-station attendant, she grabs two bottles of “Absolut Petrol” and we watch as the nasty liquid disappears into the bellies of our motorbikes. This particular gas station uses only Absolut Vodka ...
... to kuta and he gave us a ridiculous quote of over 150,000 rupiah! One thing we had done right was read in the Lonely Planet that the taxi ride should only cost around 35,000 rupiah from the airport and to look out for the official taxi ticket window. After finding the ticket booth we got into one of the legit taxi’s which incidentally are also the unofficial taxis. The drivers pray on tourists who emerge squinting and in a daze out ...
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia shelleyandsimmo... year and befriended a guy from his hotel who had showed him around the island. they kept in touch and put her in contact with him for our arrival. he's one of the nicest guys ever. from the small artsy town of ubud, which is drenched in culture, he was very eager to meet us to show us around and explain to us about balinese life and culture. we met in kuta and he took us straight away to his village ...
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia domhnall... for that one I needed a code or something. My excitement dropped as sharply as it had risen. More people started to arrive at the airport. Since it was only 6:30 in the morning, the desolate airport brought an eerie solitude feeling, quite different than the busy hustle of the international terminal in LAX when I left. The serenity welcomed me much more than the claustrophobia I feel from bodies all around me in LA. But then again, it was almost too quiet. I ...
Ubud, Indonesia snclark8... We basically took the first place we could find and said we'd get up in the morning and look for a better place, we just wanted to sleep at this stage. Thats exactly what we did the next morning, I went for a walk around and found a nice (but slightly expensive) hotel with a nice swimming pool and in a good location. I told them to keep me a room and went back to get Lydia and the bags. As ...
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia staffyandlyddySergio and Dayane Florian my good friends from California now transplanted in Hawaii arrived to Denpesar. I was waiting for them at the airport hooting wearing my "I Love Bali" shirt. They were exhausted from the long trip. We spent the next couple of days in the Uluwatu area surfing and swimming in an infinity pool with the occasional massage session. They were posted up on top of the cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean to the south with several great reef breaks down ...
