Yesterday we did the tourist thing and went far north into the Strait of Malacca between the island of Phuket and the mainland. We were in the Ao Phang National Park. Day two in Khao Lak. Tried to book a tour to the islands. The cheapest we could find is 2000 baht for a day in a boat packed with a minimum of 30 other tourists and one guide.
