... Our destination is an extensive reef structure approximately one hundred metres off shore. The reef extends across the bay creating a natural wave barrier. The waves constantly break over the reef and the current is very strong. We are in the water less than ten minutes and we come across two turtles sheltering under a reef ledge. ... up, up and up. The first part of the canyon was more like a broad valley with Waimea River winding through it. We stopped at several lookouts. There were elevation signs for every 500' of gain.

... table was also close to the stage, where three musicians performed Hawaiian music. And it wasn't too long before we were called up to get our food. It was buffet style, but the lines moved very smoothly.

... drove all the way to Kilauea (kill-ah-WAY-ah) and got off at Kilauea Road to Lighthouse Road. Even though we knew the National Wildlife Refuge was closed, we wanted to check it out. When we got to the end of the road we were at the top of a cliff with a view of Kilauea Lighthouse and lots of sea birds.
