Briefly Thailand
So, back in Thailand! It feels so good to be back to sweaty nights, genuinely nice not to have to wear a fleece to bed, like we sometimes did in Nepal and India. I'm not even being sarcastic, being back to the streets of Bangkok, with the occasional smell of drains, fish and fumes is GREAT! I really do love Bangkok - you could spend hours with a …
The Last Beach Hurrah
I grab the 9am minibus, where the tout actually shows up on time, except that he takes me to a drop spot and we wait their for 45 minutes. And then a car shows up. And confusion ensues. The driver leaves his car and heads down the road toward Koh San. Strange. In the meantime, two others show up following the second tout that was at the travel …
It's Hard To Leave
Morning comes, and I have every intention to head back to Bangkok In order to grab a bus up to Sukothai, an ancient city like Angkor in Cambodia. It's a six to seven hour journey north, after the three to four hourjournwy back to Bangkok. I'm enjoying my island time, but lacking any entertainment, I am feeling bored. I must say I didn't realise that Ko Samet is a nature reserve and therefore costs 200 bhat …
The Island of Steve Thailer
After a comfortable bus ride from Bangkok we got picked up in the middle of nowhere by a man in a people carrier, which also had his wife and kids in it and they drove us to Ban Phe to catch our boat to the island of Koh Samet.
Ban Phe was a small stinky port, with the occasional advert for 'Lady' in shop windows.
Phidel and I rush …

Basic but satisfactory room for 600 Baht - the room offered hot water and was decent sized.
What was slightly disappointing was that despite having paid to stay in the room, we were still expected to pay 30 Baht each for deckchairs on the beach (although the beautiful beach somewhat compensated for this).
