How have we avoided overnight buses for so long?

... starting to get lot's and lot's of random stuff to bring home.

We were back at the guesthouse at about 1730 and at about 1815 the mini bus rolled up to take us to the bus stop. Everyone inside the mini van looked just as sullen as us about making the journey overnight in what was sure to be a bust struggling to stay on the road driven by a 12 year old wearing a back to front.<br ...

Welcome back to Oni's travel stories.......

... BKK and went for the odd tuk tuk joy ride hooning around the city, inhaling all the fumes, and griming from ear to ear. Actually I must say I haven’t stopped eating since I arrived in Thailand, I can’t help it, the food is soooo good. And well when it’s too hot to move, best just eat another tasty meal.

Last night standing waiting at the northern bus terminal in BKK George (yes my backpack has a name!) and I had our first disagreement, he was ...

Two Nights In Bangkok & The Worlds NOT Your Oyster

... guess that it had to do with our dinner. We went to speak to the American consulate at the 7eleven and he directed me towards the cereal and milk. Emma ventured off towards the candy section, while Collin and Beau were a bit more... um... disgusting. They got a shredded honey pork and bologna sandwich, a pizza bologna sandwich, a purple drink, and some type of pastry that Beau described as "butter." We laughed, we gagged, we had a good ol' time in the middle of bumble **** Thailand. -Mono

The journey begins

... Well I'm not just here basking in the sun and enjoying the food, I'm here trying to set up a sustainable tourism venture. OK so what exactly does that mean? Well it means that I'm trying to set up a travel company that practices sustainable tourism principles such as: - Preserving the natural environment, culture of indigenous people, their heritage and way of life. - Ensuring the economic benefits of tourism go ...

Have car, will travel .. to Tak

... restaurant at our hotel, overlooking the river. We ordered a cheeseburger (why?!?!) and some cocktails - and it ended up being the most expensive dinner yet - and the worst! We stayed in the restaurant just reading our books, watching the lightening and thunderstorm, and listening to the live entertainment - a Thai girl singing John Denver's 'Country Roads' and other such popular hits (!). It was all very pleasant.....

On the bus

... things, lots of dreams. Mostly about having flown back to CA to do something? for a few days, and wondering why I did that, and planning to come back here. Same as recurring dream I have about being in city I grew up in, trying to come back to CA...a common "worry dream" i suppose Had some delicious Thai curry soup with coconut milk, rice vegetables for breakfast. It's common. Not your ...

Escape from Bangkok to the Ancient Capital

... out 14 km west to the Old Sukhothai. We rented bikes there and biked around the ruins. There were tons of old wats and shrines as it was the ancient capital of Thailand back in the day when the Khmers ruled. The weather is so much cooler here. There isn't the humidity of Bangkok and the pace is much slower. There was the coolest old lady who had food stall ...

Day to Day

... of old British antiques, cool stuff if one could bring it back. People are friendly, but not especially talkative. It's entirely possible that we were followed the entire morning we were there. As we leave we see a group of Burmese sitting in columns on the sidewalk just outside the immigration gate. They were caught in Thailand without papers and are being deported back to Burma. If the Burmese officials don't like their paperwork (ie they are Karen or ...

... his sandals over the rough terrain for a few days, but since he was given no food or water, when he got tired they shot him. He somehow escaped with only a bullet in his thigh, and came to the camp. I'd seen a hospital a few days before, and I ask him why he didn't go there. He was on crutches, and it was a few miles away, but surely he could have gone there? No, he says, the hospital is only staffed by foreign volunteer doctors (like Doctors Without Borders ...

... him in the neck with a kitchen knife. She says this like she's reading a grocery list, only showing emotion when I take her picture. She knows that it's evidence against the SPDC, and the Karen are used to telling their story to foreigners...but as I've been told by my editors: talk about rape on the air and they'll change the station. I catch the last truck back to Mae Sot and don't really enjoy the well-prepared pasta for dinner. My two dollar meal is nearly a week's ration in the camp.
