It´s now 9am and I´m none the wiser as to the whereabouts of my backpack... despite a call to the airline. I´m glad I packed enough medication in my day pack for a couple of weeks though I don´t have my inhaler. It´s very cold here; at an altitude of 2700m it´s like a winter´s morning back home. I´ve borrowed a fleece and had breakfast in the hotel and am now waiting to hear if my luggage arrives on the 10am flight. If not, I´ll be causing the tour to be delayed as we are supposed to be spend...
Quito, Ecuador jonshorter... thrilled with the fact that the bathroom smelt of bleach!!! It was the cleanest hotel yet that we´ve stayed in. It had a really good view over Quito with a roof terrace where breakfast was served. Breakfast was $1 dollar, but strictly 1 egg, 1 slice of bread, 1 coffee and some fruit. Nazi breakfast!!!
On our first day, we did lots of sightseeing in the Old Town, which is very pretty. Colonial with lots of plazas and historic ...
... Too much to do, too little time. Colombia was an added extra in our itinerary. Trekking is no bueno in October anywere else in South America, so we came to Colombia, where there´s not much trekking, and decided to hit up the undiscovered paradise. What we found were funny, strange, and unusual, but great and passionate people in a ...
Quito, Ecuador destin8ion... had also been rearranging the chairs like he had an obsessive/compulsive disorder and we remarked on it. Then they left, ate nothing. We were too stupid, I was too stupid, too careless to notice until we got up to leave that they had lifted my small backpack with everything - camera, video camera, money, my rain jacket, headlamp, book i was reading.....and passport. All gone. They got about $1000 worth of stuff, and I ...
Quito, Ecuador destin8ion... head. I wasn’t sure if it was real but the reaction of the boy at whom the revolver was pointed made me feel that it was. The boy withdrew the pistol and shoved it into the front of his trousers with the handle exposed looking very smug. I tried not to draw attention to myself as I continued to walk towards them and they crossed the road. I got within about 10 metres of them before they noticed me, I could see the gun clearly, it was real. I avoided eye contact but there was a ...
Quito, Ecuador casebrownfamily... sadly, the views are often disguised by fires which occur throughout, and some alarmingly close to urbanisation. On our walk up to the statue there was evidence of fires all around the shanty town that was perched precariously on the hills.
The city seems very safe during daytime, and we have walked a large area taking neither taxis nor buses. The only mishap we suffered was when some 'pendecco’ (Spanish for ******) sprayed paint on our backpacks. Little things please ...
... and went to the internet cafe. We met up with my Auntie´s friend Sue and had lunch at an Indian place which was really weird and totally didn´t taste like the indian we get. Then we caught a taxi that ripped us off and took us for a long ride to the vivairum that was so awesome, we got to hold a Boa Constricter.
So, the last entry was pretty hectic. I wrote it quick and short as i could, as th**e w**e many more details i could have dove into. Tomorrow I am off to a new town called canoe. I have yet to leave my original arrival destination quito, but now am v**y anxious to get away from this crazy city. The reason for canoe is its suppose to be a beautiful coastal town on the beach, and one of the hostel own**s is a girl from alaska. So i decided to pop in th**e ...
Quito, Ecuador davidayotte... They said, sure. One was a Dutch guy called Jolle. The other was a German, Jan, dressed in red jumpsuit of some kind. He had successfully reached the top. Like me, Jolle had decided to turn back because of the weather. Knowing that I wasn't the only one quitting and their company made me feel better.
Fortunately, the rain subsided and the path downwards became much less steep. It was not long after joining Jolle and Jan, that I noticed a ...
