... tricking, and starting negotiations at ridiculous figures in hopes of getting 10% of their original offer. If they do, they thank you and start fresh with someone new. I read about this on the internet and in travel books prior to visiting Thailand but could not prepare myself for the wrath of blatant sex offerings (in front of Tania nonetheless, and with 5 X 7 laminate menus for me to choose from), custom suits for less than $100 that would be tailor made, a ...

... aged men who want to do what they officially cannot in their own country. The most common sight here on the streets is a middle-aged guy with a young Thai girl half his age or less. Come nightfall, the beautiful beach area is converted into a hunting ground for the same. Bars blare out loud music and the streets are teeming with people in the skin-trade. All this was not unexpected of this place. But the brashness, scale, level of openness ...

Phuket: Remembering the Tsunami

... from the lack of emergency preparedness in 2004, there are Tsunami Evacuation Route signs throughout the island now. When I reached the water's edge at Kata Beach, I was hit really hard by the memories of that dark day in 2004. It was hard to believe that this blue, warm and beautiful sea of fun that is as still as glass could be such a menace in a moment's time. Prior to entering the water, I had a silent prayer and paid homage to the sea that ...

Phuket Town & Patong Beach

... visa run" trips available for around 1800 baht, but even though we knew we could do this same trip for around half of that price on our own, it seemed like a big hassle just to get another two weeks in the Thai Kingdom. Considering that one of those days would be spent doing the trip to Myanmar, we decided to spend only one night in Patong and then start heading to Cambodia. Once we were back in Phuket town, Lisa decided to reserve our bus ticket back to Bangkok in two ...

... review). Also I must apologize to anyone who went out and got a scooter after my last blog (yes all 100). My scooter can hold about 1 litreish of 91 petrol. It is about 30-40 (thirty) kilometres for a full tank. And that's about 40 baht ($1.20AUD) - slightly cheaper than home. When I first arrived here my blocked nose/sinus disappeared - I could finally ...

Phuket and Phang Nga Bay

... though with how well Phuket has recovered after the devastating tidal waves a couple of years back. After taking several photos, we walked back to our hotel to get ready for the only tour we signed up for in this leg of our trip (thanks to tripadvisor!) - The John Gray's Sea Canoe Hong by Starlight Tour. We were picked up by the tour company from our hotel on time. The drive to the pier was almost an hour, and the trip to the first limestone cave in Phang Nga Bay took ...

No more tsunami

... and blue water crashing into the beach in rythmic motion. The only drawback is that this time of year the seas are to rough to swim in. I am getting ready to go on an elephant trek up in the hills in the middle of the island this afternoon. I'll let you knofw how that was tomorrow. I'm also going on a boat trip out to some of the smaller islands tomorrow and will be able to swim and snorkel. I'll let you know about that also.
