After 2 great days at the beach we headed back over Henri Pittier national park and had a long day on the truck to a place called Barinas, we didn´t get there till quite late and were supposed to be camping which meant us putting up the tent in the dark (well Eugene mainly with me watching and directing from the side holding a torch). We found out it was 10 Bolivars each to upgrade to a room with a bed, toilet and shower ...
Barinas, Los Llanos, Venezuela sandraewensAfter our great time in Los Llanos, we jammed ourselves back into the Land Cruiser for another 5 fun-filled hours of sweaty bums on vinyl seats, all the way to a posada about an hour from Barinas, just east of the Andes. Campamento Guamanchi was a great place, really chilled, hammocks all over the place, neat rooms and good food... lots of good food. Our mission here was to do some white water rafting and we kicked ...
La Acequia, Central Venezuela, Venezuela theblakesHello again, As promised, here are some details from our Los Llanos trip. We have more pictures to add (scenery and wildlife and the such), but here are some photos to appease family :) One of the great things about this trip was that it was an organized tour, meaning that we didn't have to plan our meals and accomodations for our first time since we left the hotel in Caracas. That in itself was a nice break. The morning our group, organized by Arassari Trek ...
Barinas, Los Llanos, Venezuela coryandpierreWe got up early to leave for our Llanos trip only to be told by the posada lady that Arassari had called late last night and told that they could not find any guide to take us to Los Llanos. So after a quick nap we headed to Arassari where Sabine and Don spent the next ...
Barinas, Venezuela tejasgoleWe arrived in the village of Barinitas and were welcomed by George´s mother and her cousins. Driving through Barinas to Barinitas, the contrast to the rest of Venezeula was evident. The land was completely flat.....the houses all bungalows......the atmosphere laid back and sleepy. Los Llanos are flat fertile plains, which are often described as the heart of Venezuela. This is where Joropo (a typical type of music and dance ...
Barinas, Venezuela sheenasumariaLos Llanos Supposedly the best place to see wildlife in Venezuela, the Llanos was a disappointment. It teems with wading birds, and there are countless caimans and besides that we saw red howler monkeys (beautiful), lots of iguanas and an anteater. It was nice but well short of spectacular and I wouldn't rush back to do the same thing again. To be fair, though, it was not the best time of year, and our guide was not great. We did the standard trip. Stay at San ...
Barinas, Venezuela mlcLos Llanos is brilliant! We have a crazy guide called Tony. He sees a Snake, Turtle, Iguana, it dosnt matter if we are on a truck or boat - he jumps!!!! Grabs them off trees, throws himself into water with Phirana - real Steve Irwin stuff! The 1st day was spent mainly getting to the camp. We had a really nice meat meal on the way and met 3 Swedish guys Lauren knew, we had te jeep with them and it took ages but we ...
Barinas, Venezuela stuboFrom Merida, I went on a 4 day tour into Los Llanos (in English, the wetlands). Los Llanos is a sparsly populated region in th center of Venezuela; in the wet season it is all swamps. Los Llanos is home to hundreds of species of birds, caimans (aligators), giant anteaters, anaconda and other less impressive snakes, giant iguanas, and the capybara, the worlds largest rodent (it´s much bigger than me!). We slept in hammocks ...
