We have been enjoying our time here on the beautiful island of Kauai in Hawaii. It's a weird feeling thinking we are in the States though because it sort of has a different feel here than the U.S. we are used to visiting. We woke up early today to make the calls and see if we are good to go on the hike. We were given the green flag so the excitement kicks in along with the rush to get out there so we could secure a parking space. We grabbed a couple of Nutri grain bars from the gift shop along with two turkey croissant sandwiches and 2 liters ...

... alert. Sounds like I made the drive up here just in time. Will stay local today and drive up to the Princeville Centre and have a saunter about. Might go in to Hanalei but the bridge may be closed due to the flooding. Good excuse to go to the St Regis and book a massage!

OK, what did I just say about staying local? The bridge was open so I ventured into Hanalei. The river level was up and it was a deeper rust colour than usual. Kauai is famous for it's red dirt, ...

... the Allerton Garden. We saw all kinds of trees, bushes, flowers, statues and water features. All of the water features are gravity fed from a 5000 gallon wooden barrel that has been there for over 70 years. They don't return any of the water because Allerton didn't want the noise of any machinery in the gardens. The most enchanting place we visited were the three ficus aka banyan aka strangler fig trees planted 62 years ago. They are ...
