... and girls were all adorned with beautiful Leis (flower necklaces) and the men and boys, Kukui nut necklaces that gives the wearer power and change colour when used as prayer beads and rubbed. Very thoughtful and beautiful party favours. Allow me to take a sip of my beer now while I remember what we did next... Ahhhh..... Right. After that we all hit the beach. Everyone was surprisingly cheery when the 3:00 alarm went off in Calgary on July 2. Off we were to the airport to start our adventure. The quick 1.5 hour flight to Seattle was uneventful, however once in Seattle the adventure began. Once we had boarded our plane, we learned that the catering truck had hit and damaged the plane. So we had to deplane, take a train clear across the airport to board ...

... lots of tail smashing they really are spectacular!

We went into Lahaina for dinner tonight a great pizza place on the water, I know Doug and Patti will love this place. Bryan had a deep dish pizza and I had meat balls and salad so so good.

An early night to bed as we are up and gone early for our adventure to Haleakala Crater. I won't do an early morning post but expect to see me on-line tomorrow afternoon.

... this pool created by nature. A rock barrier separates the ocean from the pool. One of the pools is around 7-12 feet deep and about 12X20 feet in diameter. There are many different kinds and colors of fish that are swimming in it, as well as other ocean life. It is like swimming around in your own little aquarium. There are also a number of smaller pools in which you can observe marine life.

... the winds increased in velocity to the point that the sand was whipping around. A local resident mentioned to us that this is often typical for the wind to increase like it did in the afternoon and then it quiets down.

On the drive back to the condo we stopped at a fruit stand. We were offered to taste mangos, papaya and pineapple. All were good but we selected to purchase a pineapple. They were also selling starfruits ...
