      Yesterday, January First was a great day with a free morning to catch up on sleep after our New Year's Eve fireworks outing.       ... beautiful as well, divided into an upper and lower church as well as the tomb of St. Francis underneath, it had an incredible energy about the place and for me at least it was one of the most interesting churches we had visited. So after a grueling return to the hotel to retrieve our car it was time to embark on the final leg of our Italian road trip, the drive to Rome where we would return the rental car and bid arrivederci to our days of driving through Europe!
