Living & Working in Koh Phi Phi; good/great/grim.

A travel blog entry by freeingfuller

I had been on Koh Phi Phi for not much longer than a week when I started working in Banana Bar; the only rooftop bar on the island, my personal favourite even prior to working there, and a pre-drinking Mecca for tourists looking for a wild night and some gut(and bladder)-busting Mexican food!
A Dutch friend of mine was working there and …

The Rock, the Stressful, Surreal Rock.

A travel blog entry by freeingfuller

This was the second time in Phi Phi in my journey. The first time round I was still relatively inexperienced in travelling and making friends. This time round I was ready for the rock. I was a new person.
I find it peculiar that one can step out of their comfort zone, lose their flip flops, dignity, and wallets and become at one with themselves …

Bloggy bloggy bloggy

Had an early wake up in order to catch the ferry over to Phi
Phi (and as usual the pickup was late so we almost missed our ferry). The ferry
took about an hour so we arrived in Phi Phi at around 9.30. We rocked up to a
dorm called Flower Bungalows, to say it was a bit of a different is an …

Island hopping in Thailand

The islands of Thailand have proven to be a wild mix of craziness and relaxation to date. After leaving the mainland at Krabi, and having recovered from our scooter mishap, we took a short ferry to Ko Phi Phi.

We were greeted by literally thousands of backpackers, all donning the Thailand uniform of a Chang beer vest and lumo pants of …

The Climb & Fire Dancing

We got up, cloaked in heat, & headed out for grub. Everything's pretty overpriced on the island, & we were hoping for something cheap, & settled on a place where we ordered some Thai crepes. They might of been cheap, but were puny. Quite underwhelming. We decided to head out to a different beach at the south end of the east part of the island …

This was my second time in Phi Phi, so I had a lot more knowledge into where to stay and avoid. This time round I was actually planning on staying for a couple of months and knew many workers stayed at Flower as they offer monthly packages for farangs working on the island. The dorm is a bit cramped but the toilets and showers are very clean considering! I stayed in a hut as I like my privacy and it was lovely, cosy, lots of spiders though which is inevitable! When I go back to work there throughout the Christmas season next year I will without a doubt stay here again.
