Overnight we cruised from Tunis to Palma de Mallorca arriving about midday and after having lunch we took the shuttle bus to get us into the centre of town. We had considered walking as they were charging €25 for a return for two which we thought expensive for a 10 minute bus ride. However it is a captured market and it was a good walk. Maybe a taxi would be no more expensive. Maybe we will try that next time! The shuttle dropped us near the centre of Mallorca and ...

    ... and incredible light. We
stayed in Cala San Vincenc, on the north side near the wonderful town of Pollensa (highly recommended). We lucked out with two beautiful warm days and one day of significant rain (Sunday). We explored Formentor – the stunning drive to the beach and lighthouse, the beautiful bay – swimming, paddleboarding, indulging in a beachside Italian lunch. We hiked one of the hundreds of amazing stone paths out ...

Our next adventure (after school, of course!) was to head out to Cap de Formentor. This is a remote point of the island in the north-east corner. The drive out there was beautiful in itself, with amazing views of the mountains inland, and the cliffs and coast out to sea. Unfortunately, it's quite a popular destination - the drive was quite busy and we couldn't stop at most of ...

... before heading up to the town of Soller for dinner. We ate at a little place recommended by Trisha, which specialises in "pintxos" - which are generally small pieces of baguette with various toppings - very nice. Maybe the highlight of dinner though was the strange device that came with my cider, which helped pour and aerate the cider before drinking it as a shot... Not sure how this would go down back in the West Country! After a few cider ...

... beach with a lovely view out to sea. Then onwards to Calvia, a very small town with a nice church, and finally to Port d'Andratx where we stopped for a beer. The port was nice, but we learned later that it is a very expensive part of the island... I wasn't really sure why! We met John for dinner near his place in Sant Antoni and it was good for John and James to meet - thankfully they held off the geeky linguistics discussions - for now, at ...
