Accidentally in Brazil!

Woke up in Punta del Diablo and decided we needed petrol for the car before we could go much further. The station was a while away so we also decided to go for a drive around the area too. Set off for a little town called Chuy, pronounced Chewy. Its about 40 mins from the beach.
on the way we went to this little war museum called Fuerte de San Miguel which was kinda cool we paid 20U which is ...

Punta del Diablo

After a busy few days in BA Argentina we caught the ferry or to Coloina in Uruguay wich was about an hours ride. Franand i passed out on the way over though because we thought it would be a good idea to pull an all nighter as we had arrived back to the hostel the night before at 3.30 am and thought we wouldnt get to wake up on time for the ...

Downtime in Uruguay..

... us have been there..) but it was very foggy, and totally bleak.. with a windswept beach and big rolling grey waves heading for the sandy empty beach. There were clearly no taxis or any way of finding our hostel so we trudged along in the fog in bemused amazement at the change in weather and vista!

Finally we found our hostel.. it was an old fishermans house with all kinds of eclectic sea themed paraphenalia scattered everywhere.. really really rustic, but ...

Sun, sea and a drop of vino

Arrived in Punta del Diablo on the NW coast of Uruguay on Thursday. The place was wind swept and the sun was setting as we got off the coach which took 5 hours from Montevideo, which wasn´t too much to write home about.

We spent most of Friday and Saturday waiting for the sun to come back out as it was really overcast and reminded me of North Wales, damp, quiet and remote. There was this sea mist that reduced visability ...

Punta del Diablo, and my first border crossing

... line speak spanish, and on the other side portuguese; that's how God created Chui. I was quite amuzed about the half-half thing (I can be in Brazil on one side of the street, paying in Reals, and in Uruguay after crossing it, paying in Pesos), but I was not curious enough to stick around more than was absolutely necessary, so I caught an early morning bus to Punta del Diablo. Again the bus stopped at passport control, and I, being the only gringo on the bus, got off to get my ...

The Ranch

... duties we lazed in hammocks, ate and nursed our aching limbs. The horses were free to wonder the garden and so it was normal to have a horse chomping grass just next to your hammocking. Beautiful.

The most fun I had on a horse was after a long day. We turned around to head back to the house and sensing that relief was near the horse broke into a canter (I think that's the word) and then a full on gallop. Unlike a trot, which can be seriously unkind to one's rear cushions ...

Up the apple to get the dog...

... quite comical. ¨Up the Apple¨ is up the apples and pears to Bedfordshire, which rhymes to ¨stairs.¨ ¨Dog¨is ¨dog and bone¨ which rhymes with ¨phone.¨ So... Up the apple to get the dog, means... up the stairs to get the phone. Now keep in mind, we have no relevence to getting a phone in this story, it´s just piece of our evening to share.

... Iguazu bus station!

Sunday was our journey to Punta del Diablo (a small fishing village on the north east coast of Uruguay). It began with a ferry ride across the bay between Buenos Aires and Colonia, Uruguay then a bus to Montevideo, Uruguay; then another bus from Montevideo to Punta Del Diablo. This all would have been a standard day of traveling except for the fact that it was a cold, rainy ...
