    Spine tingling Ypres

    From beautiful Brugge we drove south west to Ypres. Along the way we stopped at some of the war memorials to the fallen soldiers. All this area is part of Flanders. We stopped at the Tyne Cot cemetery. It is the biggest commonwealth memorial. It was quite surreal looking at the walls knowing every name on the wall represents a soldier whose body was never found or identified.

    So, on to this trip! took the Eurostar which is always fun because I get a bit better than the standard tickets so we get food and good seats. usually a place to put our bags too. always good. we were supposed to get a train from Brussels to Brugge on the same ticket. ...

    ... final day of sightseeing in mind, we caught the bus back to the site. Unfortunately, half way through the journey it developed a fault and the driver had to contact the depot to send a replacement vehicle, so not good given our initial impression of the service. The site filled up yesterday, due to the weekend, I guess, but quite a few have moved off this morning. Anyway, about to get ourselves sorted for Bruges day ...

    ... station we finally made it into "Markt", the main square in Bruges. Needless to say, the whole way we had been dropping quotes and references from the film "In Bruges", but like Brendan Gleeson's character says in the film, it truly is like a fairytale town.
