Litoral, Argentina juanita16... and if the bus would have came we would have had to walk back in the dark, not such a good idea. We instead went into town and checked out the local artisans and did a bit of shopping. I decided that i wanted to go fishing again but this time i would not poach but actually possess a license. I went to the fishing store to get a license for one week and it was $250 pesos almost 75 usd. I love fishing, but that much for ...
Bariloche, Argentina gpalecek... swooped up a 50 foot wall of ice and taught us how to limb it...the trick is not to look down or you'll never get up. We pick-axed our way to the top with our shoulders aching and forever on the verge of falling off. After a lunch-break in the warm igloo tent with tea, we headed back on the ice for a further adventure. We continued kilometer after kilometer in the ice-maze and an intensifying sun forced s to strip to our ...
El Chaten, Patagonia, Argentina cornflake... when I was a little ways behind her I came across the first big open field and could see some horses off in the distance. Turns out there were three horses, 2 adult and one baby, and after standing there for a few minutes the horses decided to walk closer and circle me before making their way to a drinking fountain near the coast. Very cool experience. When we finished the hike I stopped and had lunch before hiking for ...
Ushuai - Tierra del Fuego, Argentina muldowr... couple and a woman also traveling alone so it was the five of us for the day. Two of the tourists were Argentinian and the woman who was part of the couple was from France. All but the man who was part of the couple spoke at least broken English and with my broken spanish we did manage to converse well throughout the day. The day was probably more or less a normal tour experience but we did have a few surprises along the way. As we were driving ...
Ushuai - Tierra del Fuego, Argentina muldowr... that, and believe me I had no desire to wish away the remaining days of this trip, I had embarked on another "once in a lifetime" treat... aka a stay in an estancia in the pampas. I'd done a bit of research online and had settled on Estancia El Venado (www.estanciaelvanado.net). It looked amazing on the website, it's prices were affordable to me for a short break and the people who managed it seemed to have personality. For my payment I had a ...
The Pampas, Argentina bernadine... wildlife was great and it was nice being out on the water even though it did begin to rain while we were standing and watching the penguins. The town of Ushuaia is small but not terribly small as it is a walkable village. I'm staying in a little B&B in a small neighborhood that is a 15 minute walk to the main street/tourist section of town. The tourist section of town reminds me of San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf with all ...
Ushuai - Tierra del Fuego, Argentina muldowr... to El Chalten, which I really enjoyed. I was worried before hand since I´m really not a "hiker"- I think my previous walking triumphs had been staggering home drunk in heels, rather than up mountains! But we found some nice smaller walks to go on- our best achievement was the 22km walk around Laguna torre! Though because the weather was pretty bad we couldn´t really see much- let alone the top of the mountains!!! It was then about a day and half of traveling ...
Buenos Aires, El Calafate, El Chalten and Purto Madryn, Argentina gabbybaez... were much the same again across the different businesses. It is a shame that they do not allow market forces. Part of the attraction of this place was the ability to to do some diving here with sea lions, after the wonderful snorkeling we did with them in the Galapagos Islands. We checked out the dive seen and was very disappointed in the prices that they charged $550 peso's for one dive, that was ...
PorteMadryn, Argentina rachaelandersen... this huge HUGE cemetary filled with the who´s who of argentina. the graves (if you could even call them that), or let´s call them monuments and ¨homes¨for the deceased is like nothing you would ever imagine... it´s really strange and strangely cool at the same time. these ¨homes¨house coffins, some even have staircases that lead down.. to where, we don´t know. the outsides of these structures are all made of stone... granite or marble or something to that effect. furthermore ...
