    After climbing for 6km out of the crater in which Spa sits, it was time to make our way towards Gouvy.

    Our first experience of Belgium had been a bit of a shock to the system. However, our journey to Gouvy was one of the most beautiful rides anyone could wish to cycle. In the anticipation of hills, we gave ourselves a shorter day- and we were very grateful for it.

    On his way to the airport, Juan gave Patrick, Mark & I a lift to Liege. Mark was off to Ghent. Patrick Brussels. I went sightseeing in Liege before catching the train to Brussels.

As the forecast rain was fast approaching we decided to walk some of the 6km back to Malmedy, at least past the police blockades, before they called a friend for a lift. The walk along an un-paved road through a forest was lovely. The rain, less so.
