Putre is a small village at 3500m. This is the perfect base to do some tours. We did 3 different tours and for me it was one of the highlights of Chile. With Torres del Paine and Easter Island you get 3 fabulous places to visit in Chile.
You could put it almost in the balance with the Uyuni tour of 4 days.

Overall the roads have been of a reasonable to good condition, except along some parts of the Carretera Austral and through some of the passes between Chile and Argentina, where steep winding mountain tracks with scary hairpin bends, have worried us at times. ...
