We re entered the USA , at a little boarder crossing in the mountains, nothing there except the US and Canadian customs buildings. The lady customs officer was very pleasant and didn't give us a hard time, although she didn't like our herb garden. We have have had this garden since May when we were in Vermont, so its been across a few borders, but apparently the soil is a problem, and although we explained it was US soil she insisted that I ...

523 km to go until home! Can't wait to be riding up to our apartment, I've
imagined this for so long. Last stretch, we'll be sure to make it safe.

On the way to Canada

Went back to Eugene... seems to be a jumping off point. Then Katie and I drove up to Canada via Sisters OR, then north.

We stopped and camped in Kettle Falls where we met some really nice people. One night our neighbor was a guy who had 7 yellow lab puppies, their mom and her mom. He was a kid magnet with the puppies, chick magnet too... I went over and played with the pups too :) He left and the next person in was Sue. Sue was taking 10 ...

... that we would be leaving the next morning. after dinner, the thunderstorms finally hit. a couple of us were camped outside the local library poaching their wireless internet, and we had to run for cover under the city hall's eaves in order to finish our web surfing before calling it a night. shortly after we went to bed, the thundershowers petered out, so fortunately the weather was going to shape up for the next day, and our lucky weather streak would continue.

... I ever did (we started and 20mins later we were still in trees) and finally got stuck at the bottom because the main chair was still not running. Never mind, we still had Granite Mountain to explore. The ski area at Red Mountain is located on two mountains which stand side by side: Red Mountain and Granite Mountain. So for the rest of day one we played on Granite Mountain. Jason and I got run over by the double chair (the lifty ...

... it up. its still going strong, tho its no longer perhaps as round as the factory intended... back for a shower, to the pub for ribs and wings nite, a well earned beer and bed. well before that we managed to meet THE dodgiest local, the young montana-ites were keen to hook up with some "BC-kind", was quite an amusing episode, the local obviously broke Ice-cubes cardinal rule, and hooked up with some funky **** while he was away..... next morning ...

... who have driven 10 or more hours through the night to get to the gates for the 8am open. The line has been known to take over 8 hours to get through. It is my least favorite part of the 4 day event but at least now we will minimize the damage. If the weather co-operates, we may even get some fishing in before the weekend. Yipee! Well its almost my turn to drive so I'd better sign off. It's going to be weird for me to be offline for almost a week. It has been a long time ...

The Moment of Truth

Now the moment came....getting Chris across the border. He had been flagged not to cross, but he had no other place to go at the moment. So we picked something small...Laruier. Who would go through there? lol We went through no problem, back tracked and took the same route home. As we went through the Rockies it snowed to welcome Chris to Canada! 2 Days....2,500 Kilometeres....but damn was it fun!

... Police). It has over 50 restored and reconstructed buildings from circa 1887. There were very few people there, which is the nice thing about traveling in September. We continued north from there and then drove 21 km up a gravel logging road to Alces Lake in White Swan Provincial Park. Tomorrow morning we will have a dip in Lussier Hotsprings. Can't wait.
