... is a restaurant first, there wasn't really any place to sit without having to crash the restaurant. Also, the bathrooms weren't great and there was a bad septic smell coming from some place we couldn't pinpoint. So, the next day, we packed out ****...again...and we hoofed it to Tranquilo Backpackers, which we found to be much better suited for the two of us. They have a much nicer kitchen area with lots and lots of space. We ended up in ...
Santa Teresa, Province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica farrahfig... br>3. there are lots of free animals running around. anything from dogs and cats, to roosters and iguanas, to crabs and howler monkeys (see video, they are really small creatures actually). we even saw a dog chasing a horse down the street a few days ago. uno caballo negro et uno perro. (translation "a black horse and a dog" for those of you who do not speak spanish. we are learning.) yesterday a huge iguana with a fluorescent orange ...
Santa Teresa, Puntarenas, Costa Rica gocarygo... their arms to me and I realize that this type of experience will not present itself at every twist and turn along my journey. It would be loco of me to walk away at this point, just when things are really getting interesting. I have a lot more to say, but want to keep this entry short. I hope to be better about updating and keeping you all in the loop! Take care and to my friends way up north, stay warm! I'll try to send some more sun your way.
La Florida, Province of San Jose, Costa Rica lperwak... the same, and very glassy. Also the sunsets are stunning and its great to be back on the west coast so i can float out and watch the sun go down as im surfing in water thats almost to hot sometimes. Not that i'd change that for anything but yesterday evening i was burning up out there and the water was to hot to cool me down! I like it! I stayed in till i was the last one and had to walk the little jungle path back to the hostel in the dark and i could ...
Santa Teresa, Costa Rica chalk... particularly enjoyed the supermarket. Max was taken by the unfamiliar look of the familiar cereals, and we acquired supplies for our evening in-cabin cocktail hour. We walked back toward the touristo part of town for a late lunch, because of course by then Mom and Dad were starving and we were all melting in the heat. The place we chose was open with a big thatched roof. The shrimp (both breaded and in garlic butter), rice, beans ...
Puntarenas, Costa Rica akmshain... long trip abroad, I think of going home to the Christmas season in two short months, but most of all I think of what I will look like in a swimsuit at my end-of-year WorldTeach party in Tamarindo. And thinking of this finally did it. After trying so hard to see the beauty in a couple extra pounds and allowing myself to loose the internal battles over whether to eat that last tortilla and queso, I have finally been overpowered by that evil little inner voice that every ...
La Estrella, Costa Rica bootsmade4wlkin... in their own homes they see no reason to kick off the torture devices. I had a very "Leave it to Beaver" moment yesterday when I walked in my house for lunch and there was Jessica, my host sister, mopping the floor in a poka dot halter tank top, neon green shorts, and strappy heels. She looked up grinning and said, "Hola, Lacey," just like any other day. I decided not to say anything about the footwear. In the past eight months (yes, itīs been eight months already ...
La Estrella, Costa Rica bootsmade4wlkin... eyes...and a excitedly wagging little tail...and you know, it would be nice to have a dog. I had images of this little tiny bundle of happy energy greeting me at my door as I come home from work, of taking her back to the states with me and having a real live pet of my own. It would be nice. Oh, and I'd get her a collar and cute little bowls for water and food and a cute little leash. And for about five seconds I really loved this vision of myself as a ...
La Estrella, Costa Rica bootsmade4wlkin... And while I did take off about half the length of my hair, and was given some surprise bangs to boot (thank you Mario!), this change would only have gotten me a few comments in the States before everyone moved on. But I am not in the United States right now, I am in La Estrella, and for the past week my hair has been much discussed. You see, hair is very important to the girls in my town, even more so than back home. It's almost like beauty ...
La Estrella, Costa Rica bootsmade4wlkinSanta Teresa was the most beautiful beach I have seen so far. It was not crowded and the surf was awesome. Mail Pais and Santa Teresa are seriously what this place is all about. The place was just flat out beautiful with beaches stretching out forever in both directions. I will go back someday and stay forever.....
