You just can't beat coming home to your own cottage after a long day hiking in the hills. Sitting on your private deck, sipping wine while you dinner sizzles on the grill. Did I mention the awesome shower?? Truly a pleasureable way to spend the week and the hosts were as welcoming as could be!

      To Milford Sound

... the Sound ...technically and geologically a Fjiord ......the sights were amazing as vertical cliffs towered above us with the occasional waterfalls cascading from high above .Twice we saw seals basking on the rocks as we sailed out of the Sound and into the Tasman Sea ,circled around and returned to the Harbour at 1pm. Afterwards ,when we had all rejoined the coach , we ...

... then a boat across Lake Manapouri, then another bus over Wilmot pass before boarding another boat for a 3 hour cruise of Doubtful Sound. This whole trip was scenic - Lake Manapouri was lovely, the road over the pass went through beautiful country and of course then there was Doubtful Sound.

Doubtful Sound is beautiful beyond any words I have and even the pictures don't do it justice. We had ...

... fun to see, but we are definitely too old for this craziness. We also went to visit Arrowtown, a very old ( in NZ time frame of course) and quaint little town.

Queenstown is definitely a tourist town geared to outdoor activities, mostly of the high impact variety. Once again we skipped those, however we did spend a day fishing with a man we met in a jewelry store while inquiering about the price of a bracelet. The conversation led to a discussion about fishing, at ...

... was a snow field. Where apparently some of the best views are, with towering mountain peaks on either side and a glacial river running through the crater. You are essentially walking through a giant bowl full of ice and snow. I say apparently as all we could see was the next marker on the path 5m ahead of us. No mountains, no beautiful views. Just an expanse of white. It was quite surreal how absolutely everything was a light grey colour. The only things none grey were ...

      Kepler Track

... two. We took a picture, exchanged handshakes, and bid farewell. Tom: watch out for those stoats! We continued on our merry way from there. We soon realized that we were hiking one of the most beautiful trail sections in all of New Zealand. We walked the mountain saddles with complete 360 degree views of the scenery. The trail muddied in sections, and leftover snow laid along the side of the track. The wind gusted and the sun beamed on an absolutely perfect day ...
