You just can't beat coming home to your own cottage after a long day hiking in the hills. Sitting on your private deck, sipping wine while you dinner sizzles on the grill. Did I mention the awesome shower?? Truly a pleasureable way to spend the week and the hosts were as welcoming as could be!

The guy probably had a broken leg or two, but miraculously the "stupid American" was ok.

Our last week has involved a little less hiking than usual (shocking!) but lots of time thinking about – and preparing for – a future trip. We started out with a couple rainy days in Te Anau , but our luck was good and things started clearing off the night before we were due to start on the Kepler Track, one of New Zealand's 9 "Great Walks." These popular tracks need to be booked in advance ...

There are also some good 2-4 hour walks locally and some good day walks which we didn't have a chance to try and several longer tracks (Routeburn, Kepler and Milford) in the area.
Besides the housekeeping stuff, we only had time for a look around town on Friday afternoon and we hired a ...
