You just can't beat coming home to your own cottage after a long day hiking in the hills. Sitting on your private deck, sipping wine while you dinner sizzles on the grill. Did I mention the awesome shower?? Truly a pleasureable way to spend the week and the hosts were as welcoming as could be!

... It was very mountainous and at one stage we got out of the car to take photos where we must have been over 9000 ft, and it was so cold we did not stay out there long. We have booked into Bob and Maxine's backpackers. They did not have a twin so we have a dormitory with 6 beds! They promised us we would be the only two in it which is fine, so we are experiencing our first ...

... to do in Queenstown, so we ended up watching Cinderella - so many life lessons imparted - and then got kept awake all night in the tent by music from across the road. Day 30. Saturday 18th April. Queenstown to Te Anau. The forecast was for grey cloud, but we had beautiful blue skies all day as we caught the old steam boat to Walter Peak before starting the 'Around the Mountains' great trail ride. The scenery was the most beautiful we have seen in New Zealand so far. At one ...

... basking in the sun. It was a beautiful light for viewing them in such a remote location. Shearwaters were flying impossibly close to the surface of the sea, really justifying their name. Turning back into Doubtful Sound from the sea, the scenery seemed to get even better. There were snowy caps to be seen on a few mountains. Since we had time, we explored a few of the arms that come off the main sound. In one of these, a pod of bottle-nosed dolphins was making its way along by the ...

... it's a standard 3 month visa for people like us.

We drove to Lake Manapouri just south of Te Anau and went on a 1 1/2 hour walk each way to a hut and then back through lush rainforest. See the video on my You Tube channel. I tried to make it as magical and surreal as it was in real life. It was spectacular.

If we had time, we could have climbed to alpine forest and above and over a pass. ...

... wildlife and we were lucky to have seen so much. Another highlight was when entering a sheltered cove, the Captain switched off the engine and everyone on the deck was asked not to talk or take any photos so we could experience the natural beauty and silence. It was quite a spiritual moment as it became eerily quiet and the boat was gently rocking on the waves, even the chatty Chinese toddler became silent! After ...
