First off, to the more observant of you, yes there is a gray speck on my camera lens. We can't get it off. Sometimes we're able to place it over some rocks or trees, but it's always there. About half way through this post is where we put the camera away and switched to my phone camera... which as it turns out takes much nicer photos and fits in my …

We had been wondering about having come all this way to see Milford Sound only to find that we could not get there. It seemed like a waste but I had a feeling that God knew that there was something better in store. And there was. We decided to book a trip on Doubtful Sound for the day we were to leave for Queenstown. It would be an all day trip but …

Today was spent waking up to overcast weather but the same magnificent view of the mountains across the lake. We set off early on our way to Te Anau. It was basically a drive all day type of day with a few stops for coffee and some eats. The weather got progressively worse as we approached our destination. The clouds darkened, the wind started to …

... top 5 metres of water is fresh (from all the rain) & sits above the sea water. Due to the amount of debris swept into the fjord with the rain as it comes over the waterfalls, this top layer is very dark & blocks out the sunlight creating deep ocean like conditions and apparently attracts lots of wildlife. As we have been the first we used the time for a cat wash with the collected rain water ... even out in the forest it is sometimes good to feel clean ;-) We had a nice ...

You just can't beat coming home to your own cottage after a long day hiking in the hills. Sitting on your private deck, sipping wine while you dinner sizzles on the grill. Did I mention the awesome shower?? Truly a pleasureable way to spend the week and the hosts were as welcoming as could be!
