You just can't beat coming home to your own cottage after a long day hiking in the hills. Sitting on your private deck, sipping wine while you dinner sizzles on the grill. Did I mention the awesome shower?? Truly a pleasureable way to spend the week and the hosts were as welcoming as could be!

There were a few fur seals, lazing on some rocks where the Sound meets the sea, a turbulent spot that had the potential to bring up peoples lunches!! It was a long day, about 7 hours, mostly on boats, but worth it to experience an area of true wilderness. As we return to the dock at Manapouri we see a rainbow over the ...

With the changeable weather the view was different at every passing minute. Our photos have completely failed to get anywhere near what it was like but give an indication. As if all this wasn't enough on our way out a couple of bottle nosed dolphins made a brief appearance to our port side. On the return we passed close to the bottom of a ...

Wayne had a huge plate of food and asked me to put more mussels on MY plate for him. Then he went back for more! When it was time for dessert one of the ...

We then drove up the highest road in New Zealand and through clouds! Not fog, not mist, CLOUDS! It was so cool. First there was sun, then cloud and on the other side, more sun. You can tell it's cloud because it was suspended at ...

The nature guide explained many aspects of the cool temperate rainforest that surrounded us, including tree avalanches. The tree avalanches happen because there is so very little soil for the trees to put their roots into. The forest begins when bare rock is initially covered by ...
