You just can't beat coming home to your own cottage after a long day hiking in the hills. Sitting on your private deck, sipping wine while you dinner sizzles on the grill. Did I mention the awesome shower?? Truly a pleasureable way to spend the week and the hosts were as welcoming as could be!

... the Sound. We sailed past Sanctuary Rocks at the mouth of the Sound and the swell got bigger to the delight of the kids - like a real life pirate ship ride as we stood on the bow of the boat. It had got noticeably colder as we went up the Sound and the sun had gone in here so the wind was quite biting. It was worth it though as the next rocks at the mouth (about 2m further out) were a breeding ground for fur seals and there were probably a hundred or more on the rocks - ...

Our cinema experience was so nice!! Within 2 seconds of sitting down on our leather couch, our shoes were off, my feet were up, rob was sipping his beer and I was stuffing my face on popcorn and sweets. It was a brilliant film and we weren't complaining at the half time interval when they served up some freshly made chocolate chip cookies! Fully stuffed out on bad food we struggled to move off our couch, back to Kevin for the 15 minute drive to our campsite for the night. The next ...

... the mountain pass gave us a close up view of the park's trees, native plants waterfalls and rivers. We were told that since there had been little rainfall the rivers and falls were very tame. The area usually has up to 6 metres of rain a year which causes many rockfalls and tree slides. The forest is very dense and wild but contains an education centre for visiting school groups. We boarded our second boat which ...

... to our Toyota to start our trip to Dunedin. Among the rolling hills we spotted thousands of sheep along the entire four hour trip to Dunedin. Everyone was quite tired from the early morning and long drive once we arrived so we stopped for a bite at the local brewery, Speights Ale House and then headed to our freezing AirBnb. Luckily, we had an Hvac expert with us so Doug had the heaters humming in no time. Once we defrosted we relaxed with the plan to sleep ...
