Well I was all set to leave, my brother arrived to pick me up and told me that my father had passed away that morning. Devastating news. Rang Real Gap straight away and they were really good about everything. Have postponed trip until after the funeral which is this Friday.
Will update when I have details of my flights and my new itinerary.
Think I've packed up everything in the house now, feels weird without the cats being here. I think that's one of the toughest things I've ever had to do. I hope they go to a good home....
Sold the car and rented out the flat and packed my life into a box. Strange feeling.
It's the start of a new chapter ...
... Once Brewed and to the YHA there. It doesn't open until 4pm so I park up, pop into the visitor centre and pick up a roll and flapjack then get changed it to some walking gear. The walk is fairly short at 3.5 miles each way from the visitor centre to Housestead Fort but is full of steep ascents and descents. Hardian's Wall is very well preserved here and I took loads of photos. I stopped at the sycamore tree that was featured in

... the difficult job of lying on the mattress to give pressure). Soon it was evident that the seals along the seams seem to be leaking - in a whole bunch of places! Not a single puncture, but de-lamination of the actual mattress. Great, that means that this will be a recurring problem for us. However, a bit of seam sealer did the trick for now. Doesn’t look very pretty, but who’s looking anyways?!?!

... s skyline at night, a fitting conclusion to our stopover. Back to the hotel to start packing before turning in. 27.01.09 Tuesday. It doesn't seem possible but today it is time to go home. We have mixed feelings, we are ready to leave Singapore and we are looking forward to seeing the family and Oscar and being in our home again, but it is also the end of our wonderful journey to New Zealand and the thought of ...
Syerston, Newark, England, United Kingdom tumblehomeScotland was beautiful. The highlands are gorgeous, the city is beautiful, the history is interesting but with no real impact on the world. We have realized that we are out of shape and hope to shape up in the coming week or else this is going to be a long trip. Our hostel was nice but mostly had people staying months instead of days. They did enjoy the bottle of Crown that I brought as an ice breaker in our first hostel.
Edinburgh, United Kingdom matt_326... him that, if you're going to be that mad about someone smudging your Puma, you probably shouldn't be taking the underground. Anyway, he was getting really steamed, and after about 15 seconds just got up and stormed down the train, apparently to keep himself from attacking me. He screamed something over and over again until the next stop, where he quickly disembarked and angrily paced down the platform. It was all very surreal to me - the only experience I had with Puma ...
Edinburgh, United Kingdom eadamsonAlright how fast can I type. In a rush to get to bank and then catch train to Glasgow for my last night. Had dinner with Serena and Simone last night one final time. Good night. Lots of fun. Before that I popped into the hostel one last time to say goodbye to people one last time then came back into town shortly after. No time to linger. I hate being in a rush. Will definitely keep in touch with tons of people so that ...
Edinburgh, United Kingdom steph_444... purposes Harvey works just fine. From Tyndrum and the Green Welly Stop to Fort William and a short Whisky tasting tour (I like Drumgray, a cream liquor) we made our way to our final stop for the day, Kyleakin. When what to our wandering ears should we hear but the sound of a drive shaft hitting the pavement. Aha. It would be a two hour wait for toilets, food, showers and beer, all of which were 100 times more ...
