      On the road again

We left Formia at around 10.30 for the trip north towards Florence.

The car was stacked up again and despite seemingly not to have any more stuff, we struggled to get it all in easily!

Not much to stay about the journey as was directly up the main A1 for 240 miles to Incisa, which is where we have booked to stay for 3 nights. Incisa is on the main train line to Florence, so ...

... all concentrating on filleting as close to the bone as possible, the room was quiet. My fillet ended up having a hole in it, good one, Trish! Thank goodness we were rolling the trout meat up to be skewered.

We went into the kitchen to prepare the risotto. Was surprised that we were not making risotto with arborio rice, but instead with carnaroli rice, which I had never heard of. It was interesting learning the Italian technique to ...

The lay out of the town soon appeared, we had been dropped off at the top of the town & were heading down quaint cobblestone streets towards the center of the town. It was nice that the narrow streets were pedestrian only, I get so tired of getting out of the way for cars. After two hours of going in and out of shops we all decided that it ...

... all winter? We walked to the top of the hill & looked out onto the valley, absolutely beautiful.

Our next stop was a pig farm. The little piglets were so cute and it was tough imagining them being turned into bacon in a few months. Surprisingly the fat mama pigs were mean to these little guys & kicked them off the trough if they got in their way. The owner took us into his butcher shop where we tried a few of ...

      ... our tour.

The lady's name was also Irene & she took us around the vineyard & we watched the grapes being unloaded onto a conveyer belt of a machine that plucks the stems off of the grapes, quite the operation. My favorite part of any wine tour is seeing the barrels of wine, must have been Sock Monkey's favorite, too because we found him passed out on a barrel!

Now time for the wine tasting, was pleasantly surprised with their reds ...
