The illness has me now...

I have picked up some kind of tropical disease, because that's what happens to adventurers - just ask Indiana Jones. It's a very clever disease. it's disguising itself as a common cold, but with a slight twist; and here's the masterstroke - I have a very painful earache with it. I have tried getting whatever's hurting in there out with a stick that i found on the ground but that just made it worse. See, I told you it ...

"Welcome to Wyoming - Shoshone National Forest"

We took a recommendation from a roadsign in Laurel, MT, and it paid off...The sign told us to take Highway 212 "America's Most Scenic Highway" (this is a new Hwy 212 from the one that took us through cranky-ass Broadus) to get to Yellowstone. This is definitely the most beautiful stretch of highway I've ever been on, and just a downright damn cool road. We went up all these switchbacks ...

Is it June yet?

I'm starting to think the letter "M" is bad luck for me . . . May, Milwaukee, Montana . . .

Right now it's SNOWING and the Beartooth Pass to Yellowstone is closed so I have to go around through Cody. But that's not the topper. I almost lost the Little Guy at Little Big Horn yesterday.

Okay - this is actually funny because nothing really terrible happened in the end.

I'm driving through Little Big ...

Leaving Big Timber Today

From my friend, Adam, this truly fun website: Ten Best Ghost Photographs Ever! Well, I guess we are leaving today. Not good fishing, so no reason to stay. We'll go look for my waders and survey the fire damage, and then head out... Really strange incident last night. Keep in mind I spent all day in the trailer, most of it with no radio on, so if this had happened earlier in the day, I think I would have heard it, but I didn't. Shortly after ...

Fishing and PMS

... gorgeous out here - and I have quite a nice little view: the sky is moody, the river is flowing melodically, and I'm online. Is this a great country or what? Um, have you seen the news from NOLA about the guy that killed and cooked his girlfriend (whose name was Adriane, btw!!)???? Freaky scary story... Dahmer level stuff. I mean, come on... if you can actually kill someone, don't you think remorse is a feeling that's probably sitting on a top shelf, waaaaaaaay out of ...

Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and South Dakota

The Sturgis Motorcycle rally was AWESOME!!! We were well received by the bikers, and shared camp with 5 Harley-riders from Pennsylvania. We saw concerts with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gretchen Wilson, Alice in Chains and David Lee Roth. The festival was all about Bikes, Beer and Boobs. Yes, it put Mardi Gras to shame for sure:) And there was no security, no rules, not even guidelines, yet one of the most respectful and considerate festival crowds we have ...

Day 37 - Yellowstone NP

Day 37 Wake-up call was at 8:00 this morning. A few of us decided to complete our laundry and take showers. Joe and Bro. Roger prepared some delicious western-style eggs. Alyssa and Steve L. read today's reflection prayers just before we left the campsite. After breakfast we drove to the old Yellowstone National Park, the Theodore Roosevelt Arch entrance. We took a group photo under the enormous brick gate with extreme haste because there was a lot of traffic. We then ...

Little House to Big Sky

Aug 8 (Day 99) DeSmet, SD-Badlands-Keystone, SD We split the long drive from Minneapolis to Keystone, SD with an overnight stay in DeSmet, SD. This little town's claim to fame is it is the homestead of Laura Ingalls Wilder (Little House on the Prairie). Now, neither Kirsten nor I could remember much (any) of these books from school (much less the TV series), but our travel bible recommended this small town so we went. We visited the homestead and rather than the tourist trap ...

Day of Maintenance and a Courtesy Ticket

... was in a cabinet I built behind the drivers seat so I could operate it by reaching behind the back of the seat but it was concealed behind a curtain. In response to the colder weather I had to do some maintenance on my heater. The heater controls no longer worked and I had to put on a petcock in line with the heater hose and would turn it on and off manually by opening up the petcock or closing it. After putting on a new ...

Custer's Last Stand and My Continued Van Problems

... a number of years ago presenting American history through the eyes of minorities, or those without the power and it gives a much different view than our textbooks give us. Anyway, enough of that, it was just interesting to get to see a place like that, something like Mount Rushmore but on the opposite end of the spectrum.
It was a beautiful day and after spending a couple of hours there I went on north and had a cheeseburger deluxe at the Schwarzwald ...
