... that rather overgrown look. The houses and 2 or 3 storey apartments are built right up to the narrow black sandy beaches. With small surf coming in this seemed pretty incredible until we were told there is only a 15 cm difference between low tide and high tide! I hate to use that word, but.........amazing! After a one hour drive the bus driver negotiated a very tight elevated roadway (some cars had to back up to give him room) into a ...

... Wandered around town while Kim shopped, and got a nice 5€ bottle red to drink while we caught up on emails, diaries etc. plenty of activity in town after siesta, but not as busy as morning. Typical old town, except that all buildings given over to tourism. I think locals have moved out. Set off again around 1530 for easy drive to Nicolosi which is on edge of mt Etna. Road in was bedlam but town seemed nice enough. Typical small Sicilian town. Hotel not too hard to find with the help of Google. Older property with bright blue walls and red ...

Rome- Catania

... and few people. Buildings were all designed by one architect after town destroyed by Etna in 1660- lots black stone used which gives city a dirty look. Stopped in trendy little wine bar in a small square and had a couple of wines and plate of olives, bread, cheese etc for dinner- only cost 20€ for 4 drinks and food. Amazing crowds in pedestrianised main street on Sunday evening- lots of families out for a stroll and a shopping expedition. Big crowds in ...
