Well a part of the holiday I have been looking forward to has finally arrived; we are in Tuscany. I had a diggin's of a time settling on accommodation here as I weren't sure how long it would take to drive around and I also wanted to get a feel of the countryside. I ended up booking this place cos it looked beautiful, had a big pool and was close to San Gimignano, Greve and Siena. When we arrived in Siena it was early afternoon, we somehow jagged a shaded, non metered car park (surely this was too fortuitous for the Matchett family??) Suspiciously exiting the car, we began our stroll into town. The outskirts of this walled city, seemed as though it was abandoned (unless of course you counted the hundreds of cars and tens of buses parked in the numerous ...
... so narrow in most parts! But eventually we got to the wider section at the bottom and we were out. We walked around the Piazza some more before heading back to the bus stop at the Basilica aforementioned.
It is still SO weird seeing people drive on the right side of the road.
We got on the bus and headed back to the room. It was a peaceful bus drive through Siena as we got view over the city as we ascended.

... much pepperoni and mascarpone and ham. Pretty good! Better than the pizza we had in Rome. The people watching doesn't get any better than on this square; it is fun trying to guess where people are from. Our afternoon gelato was lemon, panna cotta, and cream. Panna cotta was the favorite this time. We are still in search of rice gelato! We had to do some research and planning to get to Volterra and Pisa tomorrow, so we got some down time in ...
... it out of the city with nary a wrong turn (thanks to some stellar navigating) and were on the Autostrade. There, we did miss an exit, but after a little back-peddling, we were back on track. Before long, we were out of the city and into the magnificent countryside of Tuscany. It is breathtaking.
