Plettenberg to Swellendam
... with a brief lunch break here. I was concerned that our guide book had misled us about this 'charming town' but once we got away from Voortrek Street - which, while full of shops, feels a little run down - the town is full of beautiful old thatched buildings and tree lined streets - our guest house, The Coachman, a prime example.
Pretty as it is I am keen to get to Cape Town tomorrow.

Bus, bus, where are you???
After a wonderful few days with Willie and Sue in Montagu, we headed to Swellendam for the bus, taking the Tradouw pass. What a beautiful road, motorcycle heaven, and very beautiful. I had a lovely piece of lemon merangue pie at a place called the blue cow in Barrydale, and then we were on a winding road through the mountains. Rest and relaxation
After a small amount of further wine tasting, it was time for some mountain climbing. We climbed to the old english fort above the tunnel to Montagu, built in the 1800's. Veiws were lovely. Very glad they never had reason to shoot the cannon positioned in case of enemy advancement, that had the potential I think, of blowing a hole in the mountainside.
there are many nice places to eat in Montagu, and so far have managed three. A family run italian called picolo on Bath street, a tea ...
Too much wine...
... I also ventured into Golden/goue acre mall yesterday. It was an education to say the least, but I found a quiet corner of wimpy, had a coffee and donut for £1.60 and had a moment of quiet in a day of new things. One thing I can say about the Capetonians is that they are friendly and willing to help, it was really refreshing. Thank you Cape town!

Nachdem wir unsere obligatorischen sieben Kilometer zum Ausgleich der Autofahrt gelaufen waren, überraschte uns auf unserem Weg ins Hostel ein Dorffest mitten in Swellendam. Genau passend für uns beide! So konnten wir den Rest des Tages ein bisschen durch die Straßen flanieren und am Abend noch ein südafrikanisches - natürlich gegrilltes - Brot mit Chili con carne- oder wahlweise ...
