Due to the time difference, Owen gets his results at 9 pm tonight rather than 8 am Thursday morning. The reality of this means we have to wait all day before he is (we are) put out of our misery. It is also our last full day on Kauai. Rather than moping around we decide to make the most of it. We start our day with another visit to the waffle place for breakfast. Then Andy and Ethan go paddle boarding. Owen and I were going to go too but when I realised ...

... 15: Our flight wasn't until 9 p.m. or so. We checked out and went back up into the Waimea canyon to enjoy the lovely views before heading back to the Koloa Rum company to pick up a few more bottles of rum to share with the family and did a lot of window shopping before heading back to the airport to spend the next 24 hours on multiple planes to get back to Colorado.

All in all, a wonderful trip and a great way to celebrate our 5 years of marriage!

... and not a circle trail. If you do the full way, you need to return the exact same way. Half way and at the end, there are very basic camp grounds. I met several people equipped to stay 4-6 days out. So, they have a backpack of 15-20 kg including tent, sleeping bag, dry food, etc. The trail is slippery at many parts due to the waterfalls and rain. Rain and wind is what makes the life of the backpacker ...

... me for being to dominate paddling on one side. We stopped a couple of times under some mangroves and looked at the ecology of the area. The mangroves are a pest and were introduced. They do produce lovely flowers though, initially they are yellow and after about 3 hours when they have dropped, they turn red. I took a picture of one when we got out of the boats. We handed back our waterproof bags and grabbed another bottle of water and trekked though a grove ...
