The last push to Neel Gap was both a great hike and pretty punishing. The day dawned clear and nice, which made for nice hiking, but it did get warmer, especially on the most challenging part: Blood Mountain. I hiked a total of around 13 miles on Tuesday, and they were tough. The tallest mountain of the day was Sassafras which included a 600 foot climb followed by another mountain. Needless to say by the time I got to Gooch Shelter I was exhausted. I have never in my life been happier eating ...

... to do so in my previous posts. I met Will while working at Gearhead Outfitters in Shreveport. He was born in California, moved to DC, and then spent the majority of his life in Austin Texas (he's been all over the place). I mentioned the AT one day after work and told him (half-jokingly) that he should come with me. Well, he took it to heart and actually considered the offer. I wrote him off, not ...
