... this train trip. These musings have made up a large part of my travels in general, so why not share it with the internet. Such is the way of my generation. ---------------- These are rugged mountains - the ones with sheer faces of rock, so new and untamed that even trees or grass can't grip on to the cliffs yet. ... own towels, soap and toilet paper because they don’t supply it. No private rooms, of course, usually 6 people in a room. Since the food is so bad Italian families bring tons of food to hospital patients. They also stay at the hospital 24 hours a day because they don’t trust the nurses who are usually chatting, drinking coffee and smoking.

... We found a nice place for lunch down by the water and enjoyed a nice long lunch of pasta and wine. Tonight we are eating out and can pick from a few local restaurants that our tour director has recommended. Had a great meal at our restaurant - perfectly cooked steak and Julie had her favourite rack of lamb. Together with great wine, the evening was a success. ...

... is probably the best that we have stayed in during this trip. We had the afternoon free as there was an optional tour to one of the islands on the lake, however we have done enough boat cruises now to last us for a while. Had a few pre dinner drinks - Julie discovered Aperole Spritzer, a mixture of a spirit and champagne - so she sampled a few of these, and we then had a lovely dinner at the hotel. ... across, a very large touring bus arrived at the entrance to the bridge and stopped. Obviously he had lived through this experience before. He directed me to pull into a small area to the left at bridge end as he swung his bus to our right past us and onto the bridge….no problem!
