... the Tarif is only €54 for the night, it is actually a brand new apartment with really decent sized rooms. We are only here for the night but the town and surrounds have quite historical significance relating particular to the World War 1 era. Kobarid is famous for the fierce battles fought high in the surrounding mountain ranges between the Italians and the Austria / Hungarian army. Today we picked up a rental car and headed for the mountains! As with many rentals, we got something bigger than we reserved because that was what they's not too big though, and so far it has treated us well. ... I sit and stare into the water... White stones border it's path with the pine trees creating a walled canyon. The water gently flows along looking like a painted watercolour. As the light dims and the grounds chill rises, I make my way back to camp. Salmon swim upstream, catching food drifting down. The rush of crystal blue water pools up in limestone bunkers, while some salmon take refuge in them from the currents push. I dip my toes ...

Life is not a straight road. Things happen when you least expect it. Most will know how our road trip began but Optimus deserves a special mention, or perhaps a eulogy. Optimus, named after the hero Transformer 'Optimus Prime' (some may have to wiki this), was a wonderful Volkswagen Eos convertible whose roof mechanism was a display in itself. Unfortunately, his life was cruelly cut short. A guy on a bike carrying a large bag of drugs ...
