Bit of a sleep in this morning, had some breaky then hit the road! We caught the ferry over to Burano first thing, which is an island off Venice, where they make the lace. We got there before the crowds which is always a good thing, so we could wander around relatively by ourselves. We really enjoyed walking around Burano, it's a very pretty place with the houses all different colours. We later learnt that the colours are not allowed to ...

... eye the produce outside a small alimentari, or general food shop, on my walk back to my place. The man working came right up and was thrilled to help me out, asking what my plans were with the tomatoes.

Jack was awesome on the trip from Iceland to Italy. I surprised him with a repeat visit to the Reykjavik Zoo / Family Park on ...

... we are more romantic now, but it is more likely that we just have more disposable income, plus two kids who loudly wanted to go on a gondola ride. So around dusk we wandered down to the Rialto and flagged one down, sort of like hailing a cab in New York. We poled up the Grand Canal and then slipped noiselessly into a narrow side passage, where we slid along through the maze of crumbling waterways in this slowly sinking city. As the last of ...

    Leaving the Ship Behind

... was the area by the people mover near the cruise ships, and Rialto was the landmark bridge of Venice about halfway between Roma and Marco. If we made it to the Rialto Bridge, we could follow the Grand Canal to the train station (to get to he mainland) and Roma. I think these signs were a ploy by the locals to keep the sprawling crowds contained to a few avenues, because every avenue I looked down while passing them was empty. We were turned around once by heading too far west instead ...
