    Day 1 in Lucca

    We are now in Lucca. Everybody left the Cinque Terre safe and sound, I think. We rode the train to Pisa with Marianne and Tony. We changed trains and went on to Lucca. Marianne and Tony are staying a few days in Pisa before traveling to Southern Spain. We joined up with Joanne and Pam who are staying at our same B & B.     ... what the crowd was outside that building. Presumably, after they’d been there, they all went off to do some train spotting, or go and admire their collection of baked bean labels perhaps?

    Right, time to go. Between now and the next posting, we'll have our last visitors of the year and then the day after they leave, we're going down to Rome for a couple of days, where we'll be meeting a friend and work colleague. Looking forward to that.

    ... heat of the day, the swim at Monterosso was well deserved after about 5 hours of hard walking. I was slightly disappointed I couldn't do all four walks as was one of my bucket list items but not everything always goes to plan when traveling right!

    Enjoy the pictures as I say Ciao Italy and bonjour to Nice, France :-)

    Random fact....on the bus ride from La Spezia to Nice there are 186 tunnels along the windy coastal highway, just in case you ever ...

    ... were great! We could see all of the famous buildings of and pretty lights. Unfortunately the lights at the lookout were so bright that we couldn't see the stars very well. We all managed to see a shooting star but soon we felt tired and just wanted to go to bed.

    The way back was long, but doable. We got back around 1:30AM and I immediately fell asleep when my head hit the pillow.

    Worth the visit

    ... and that it too is leaning just like the leaning tower of Pisa. The cathedral was amazing, looked so good inside and out. I was surprised with the shear size of it as well as all the detail.

    After the cathedral we had free time to walk around the complex and take some cool photos. The first thing we done was sat in the shade and had some of our lunch we packed for the day as well as a ice cold water that we froze in our fridge over night.
