    ... courtyards with lush gardens and when I mentioned this to Betty she showed me a book she has that catalogues the 'hidden gardens of Piacenza'. They are incredible - lots of the blocks in the city centre are built around a garden courtyard so from the aerial photos you can see so many patches of green throughout the city. I just love the feeling of walking around and getting little glimpses of hidden treats - even if I don't get to experience them firsthand!

    ... we skipped the antipasti plate, instead we went straight for more tortelli, this time a mix of a pumpkin tortelli (a modern variation) and a traditional wild nettle variety. These were served without a sauce and I was informed weren't nearly as good as the ones the day before as the pasta was thicker. The pumpkin was lovely but the wild nettle were my favourite - it's hard to describe the flavour, it's subtle but just a distinctly different 'green' flavour to anything else ...

    ... ourselves smell less human, we head out for an apperitivo at a friend's bar. The Bicicletta (prosecco and campari) goes down amazingly well and Francesco gets his first copa of the trip - copa and all the other cured pork products have been haunting his dreams since we booked the tickets. We follow it up with lunch at a local pizzeria and end with caffe and a Cavallo (small glass of Montenegro).

    ... them into a bowl. It was a monotonous job, but I got to sit in the shade. EJ swam in the pool. The pool was chlorine-free, something that interests me a lot, being that I am allergic to chlorine, and it isn’t good to be soaking your body in it even if your not.
