... local vino and the musical offerings of a clarinetist with a flair and twinkle in his eye. He tapped out the tune in his Italian loafers, all these guys have really good looking shoes. We hiked way up into the hills at another village, Manarola, and the stairs just kept going up and up, turn the corner, repeat. The view of the sea and the village below made the effort worthwhile. So that evening we had to travel, which was sad as we did have a drink date with workshoppers "Colin and Helen", but that'll have to wait. So we quickly packed up and took ourselves across to the Turin area to the lovely town of Biella. The nice thing about tonight was getting out of the flat - it's nice but not that nice. TO ...

... first the town looks like a boring, generic plains town. But while looking for the town center, I'm pleasantly surpised to find the entire historic district surrounded by a castle wall and moat! It's a faily low, very thick wall with chambers and tunnels inside--some that you can visit--an rounded low corner towers. On the far side is a tall tower overlooking the river and a beautiful bridge. Definitely worth the ...
