What a wonderful husband I have , I don't know too many that would drive on a two day , 9 hour round trip so that his wife could look for handbags. I am a very lucky lady !!

An unusually helpful woman at the ticket window ( they are usually unhelpful men, in Italy), writes down the times of the trains on which we can carry bikes, and we find we have an extra hour or so to look at the town. It appears that nowadays all Regionale trains carry bike, but only some Regionale Veloce. The only way you can tell which, is at the station. We ride up into the old walled town. ... a wedding, there are the cloisters, therefectory, Chapter house, wine cellars including a wine making museum. The hotel building is in the same style as the monastic buildings, and our room is spacious and pleasant. The staff, however are all women who seem the have undergone a charisma-ectomy. The appear to be inexperienced and perhaps overworked. Dinner at the hotel restaurant is unremarkable. More to come + ...
... too narrow for cars. We take the stairway for a quick look around the town, and, of course, a trip to a supermercato. Fruit and veggies are not self serve, and we have to wait a while for help.The cashier is clearly annoyed that I have no change, and burdens me with a huge pile of coins in my change. Dinner is in the hotel restaurant where we continue to get amazingly friendly service. Soup and pasta is pretty good with un mezzo litro of house ...
As we were coming to the end of our stay in Macerata, we took some snaps of the lovely aparthotel where we stayed. We'd also seen some Roman ruins on our travels so went back to visit them and discovered an amphitheatre used as a venue for concerts ...
