... Palmina worked at). It was the oldest winery in Italy which originally invented the famous Chianti wine. We went up to the Castello de Brolio The owners castle where we walked around the grounds and had panoramic views of the valleys below. Then we set off down to the huge winery to taste the wares. After we got home Sue had a little nap before dinner and we had our tucker in one of the local restaurants. The food was delicious but they are not so good at taking and delivering what we ...

... or Friday 22nd August 2014. If things go to plan, then I will have completed my Via Francigena pilgrimage either 9 or 10 days earlier than I first imagined, and I will get to spend my birthday in and around the Vatican City. What a great present that will be!!

I hope I'm not tempting fate talking this way, so please continue to keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I also need prayers that my boots will hold out a bit longer (see photo).

I better close this entry now to allow me time to finish my washing and to take a final wander round the streets in the rubberised gardening shoes I've not yet managed to replace. Schhh, don't say anything, but maybe I could give them as a souvenir to one of my brothers when I return home.

... that are raised on the estate. There were adorable little piglets and huge ones (not so cute). Adia was ready to pack a piglet in her suitcase. There are chickens, cows and donkeys also. The girls made a stop at the pool before walking back to Montecchino. Tomorrow we go to Florence. It has been nice to have two days of rest before touring another big cultural center.
