... Port which is made from white grapes and has a citrusy flavor and is used as an aperitif.. Then there are the 2 Ports made from red grapes, Tawny and Ruby. The Ruby is aged in huge barrels (20000Ls) and has a berry and chocolaty flavor while the Tawny is aged in smaller barrels (30L) and has a spicy and nutty flavor. Both of these are used as Digestifs. They are aged for 2-3 years before being bottled. The port grapes are grown in the Douro Valley which is ...
Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal ktchris... a meal, and then turning in. The hostel was one of the nicer places I've stayed. It's a very large 3 story house that's been converted to a hostel, but completely maintains the feel of a big old house. The setting really promoted the mingling of the people in the hostel, which was great because it was a pretty diverse crowd.
Porto itself is quite a nice place. It's very much what it wants to be, and nothing more. You get that feeling sometimes when a city ...

Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal cariverga... are. The distilleries were surprisingly accessible, with all of them offering tours of the caves and tastings, for a fee of course. We were only able to visit a couple (Porto seems to close for 2 hours during lunch) before catching our evening flight out, but we are glad to have tried some new and very interesting kinds of port. Thank you Portugal, we will be back to see more.
Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal tommcatt... We arrived safely thanks to these total strangers. He advised us not to take the caravan into Porto.
The next day we went on the bus to Porto and discovered why. The 8 kilometer journey took about an hour as the bus travelled in ever decreasing circles through streets normally impassable to a bus without the use of a horn and the assistance of disgruntled lorry and car drivers who had to backup. On arriving in Porto feeling shaken and stirred we discovered a ...
We drove through the rain and Jessica (sat nav) took us up into the mountains. When she wanted us to do a sharp hairpin bend that was impossible with the caravan we had to carry on to a dead end in the road. As the rain got heavier we had to unhitch the caravan, turn round and rehitch and retrace our route. Unfortunately we did it very ...
Braga, Northern Portugal, Portugal mikeandsuecuff... the better part of an hour looking for any restaurant that was opened. Our meals were : a tuna salad (a can of tuna, unrippened tomatoes and lettuce) and pork (a peice of pork, rice and french fries.) Long story short we were more then enthusiastic to get on the road in the morning to leave Porto behind
Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal sofenjon... right on the river and they make a lot of cheap Port. Then it was onto Saturday night we thought we would go out for a few beers and see what was happening in town not that we even know where town is. Found a bar and where sitting there Adam was trying to find out where all the clubs where from 2 spanish girls. Then later the 2 Spanish girls named Salute and Fedra came and ...
