Excitement today as the first trip on the Shinkansen to Nagano up in the mountains where the Winter Olympics were held in 1998. Correct pronunciation is But first we have to do a train transfer from Shinagawa to Tokyo at peak hour! Today was the longest day (both in terms of miles covered and travel time) we had planned for our whole trip. We figured a long travel day earlier in the trip (while we still had energy) would be a little bit easier, while still making sure we fit in all the amazing things we wanted to see during this trip!

Its a 4 hour bus ride from Tokyo to Nagano. We take the bus over the train, as the Shinkansen is not cheap, and i have never driven on the roads in Japan, so it will be a good experience. The bus is as punctual as the train and departs on time to the minute. The drive has plenty of beautiful country side and snow capped alps. For the final day, we got up and had our normal breakfast. Sam laughed that the HP had been unopened the whole season and since Thomas arrived, we'd just finished the bottle!
