... wine instead of sake. Tasted a bit ordinary at first sip, but the more you had the better it got! The hotel is a bit like an O'Reillys at Lamington National Park with meals included. They also provide local products and traditional teas and goods in your room, similar to what happens in Vietnam. ... Mt. Koshi. Traditional Japanese Onsen Hotel. Booked the private Onsen as not enough courage to expose private bits in the public baths. Very relaxing. Even Rod agreed to try it, which is pretty amazing as he usually will not step out of his comfort zone. Then off to dinner with Kerry and Gloria. They have travelled extensively and are really interesting and good company. So a few beers and glasses of sake before hitting bed for a good nights sleep. Damned Sake....headache ...

... Walked down to Shibu onsen. People walking from bath to bath wearing Yukata and Japanese shoes. Finally made it back to the ryokan. Put on our Yukata and shoes and walked to a nearby onsen. It was very hot, could only put legs in, Philip squirted cold water on us to help . Went for dinner , then back to the ryokan. Tatami and futons, tiny rice filled pillows. ... out to find the ‘Express’ bus to the park. To be clear, we had already traveled:

  • 15 minute shuttle ride from the hotel to Shinjuku station.
  • 20 minute train ride from Shinjuku station to Tokyo station.
  • 90 minute shinkansen ride from Tokyo station to Nagano station.
Now we needed to take:
  • 45 minute bus ride to Kabayashi Onsen stop.
