Today was the longest day (both in terms of miles covered and travel time) we had planned for our whole trip. We figured a long travel day earlier in the trip (while we still had energy) would be a little bit easier, while still making sure we fit in all the amazing things we wanted to see during this trip!

Its a 4 hour bus ride from Tokyo to Nagano. We take the bus over the train, as the Shinkansen is not cheap, and i have never driven on the roads in Japan, so it will be a good experience. The bus is as punctual as the train and departs on time to the minute. The drive has plenty of beautiful country side and snow capped alps. For the last day we decided we had to travel up the valley to Happo, site of the 1998 Japanese Winter Olympics. We took the gondola straight up to the top of the mountain and the kids were amazing. Straight down. The snow was good but a little icy. We did a few runs at the top of the mountain and then skied down to the bottom of the valley including a red run which the kids took in their stride.
