... needed any more evidence that the Japanese love to superheat their transport, the bus driver had a little analogue thermometer above his head, which was reading 27 or 28 degrees celcius. It was too damn hot, and on the seat I was in, the window was fixed and wouldn't open. At least those in the rows behind me had the luxury of opening a window and not suffocating.

Day 13 - Impromptu Karuizawa and Matsumoto Castle

... there for the shopping, I wouldn't bother.

The day was still early, so we decided that to fill the rest of the day we'd head to Matsumoto. To do so we returned to Nagano on the shinkansen, and since we were back at home base, and we knew we'd be walking through the streets of Matsumoto, possibly after dark, we returned to the hotel to pick up some warmer clothes.

... later when they asked me to hand the key back. After about a minute of making gestures of closing a door and showing them my empty hands, and pointing in the direction of our room, I think they either understood that I'd either locked the key in the room, or lost my mind. Either way they seemed to accept that as a valid reason why I wasn't handing the key back, and I was allowed to leave.
