... en shoppen na het skieën. Helaas viel de berglucht rauw op Roos' gestel, zij werd op 2 dagen tijdelijk geveld door migraine. Ons eerste dagtripje was naar het 'snow monkey park'. Onvergetelijk. Het is een natuurlijk heetwaterbassin (Japan is grotendeels vulkaan dus heet water komt op veel plaatsen uit de grond), gevuld met apen! Een groep van zo'n 150 makaken heeft in de jaren 60 ontdekt dat het in een heetwaterbad aangenaam toeven ...

Today we went to a mountain area nearby to visit a waterfall and see (along with many other buses of Japanese tourists) the koyo, the wonderful shades of yellows, oranges, and reds that the trees have right now! The colours are so strong and varied that it is a really beautiful sight.

... Japanese lunch with our hosts, and on our way back we saw an animal on the road: at first I thought it was a dog, but as we got closer and it jumped ahead of us, we realised it was a monkey!!! Kyoto to Nagano
... which were not in the same class as the ones you get in Brewers Fayre. The waitress explained there were four different types of Japanese mushrooms. They were delightful, served with lime.
Next we had Gnocchi with Gorgonzola sauce which was a small portion but delicious. The waitresses were very kind and chatty, as were all the folk there! We have never bowed so much! And they put up with Joan's dodgy Japanese!!
