    ... and was met by a monkey sat at my head height it gave me a bit of a scare! I didn't really realise quite how free to roam about they would be! The main attraction of the park is the onsen(hot water caused by volcanic activity) which the snow monkeys use to keep themselves warm during the harsh winters in Northern Japan.     ... photos without anyone else being there. The main sanctum was divided into the inner and the outer. The inner sanctum had tatami mats, which meant that you had to take your shoes off first. Since it closed at 4.30pm and we only had 15 minutes left, it wasn't worth going in. We could walk around the outer sanctum till about 6.30pm.

    ... then another cable car to Kurobe Dam.

    It was freezing at the dam, even colder than at the peak at Murodo. The dam had an elevation of only 1450m but the wind was freezing. It was a great view of the dam but did not have enough time to go right to the top.

    We returned to the hotel for a nap. The bad thing about staying at a ryokan is that there is no bed. The futons are rolled up during the day and rolled out for us during dinner.     ... Robert was almost decapitated by the train doors on the way up. He thought that the train would stop for a few minutes and stuck his head out. The doors closed suddenly and luckily for him, his reflexes were slightly quicker than his wit. We couldn't help but laugh. I guess the situation would be different if he really did get hurt.
