DAY 4 - MATSUMOTO -DAIO WASABI FARM -HAKUBA

A travel blog entry by angelpenang on Dec 11, 2014

After breakfast, Visit to Matsumoto Castle, is unique for having both a secondary donjon and a turret adjoined to its main keep. The castle structures, in combination with their characteristic black wainscoting, give off an air of grandeur and poise. Then transfer to Daio Wasabi Farm, is one of Japan's largest wasabi farm and popular tourist destination. The farm has multiple large fields with a meticulously maintained ...

This morning we packed overnight bags and left our main luggage in the hotel baggage area then made our way from Shinjuku to Tokyo station to get our first bullet train. The Shinkansen looks like something from the space age and is equipped for your every need inside- so cool!!! Our journey was to Nagano within the Japanese Alps. With all the hills and mountains throughout Japan it seems that any small area of flat land has been ...

Today I headed off North to Nagano on a morning bullet train from Tokyo. I will be using Nagano as a base for visiting other locations over my 2 day stay here due to its ease of commuting back to Tokyo. My plan for this first day was to arrive in Nagano, drop my bags off at the station luggage lockers and then head on a bus out to Jigokudani wild snow monkey park. This all went to plan thanks to the helpful people in the information ...

... then another cable car to Kurobe Dam.

It was freezing at the dam, even colder than at the peak at Murodo. The dam had an elevation of only 1450m but the wind was freezing. It was a great view of the dam but did not have enough time to go right to the top.

Unfortunately, the restaurant at the top closed at 3pm and it was well past that by the time we arrived. We had to buy some lunch at the counter in ...

... gifts into my hands and disappeared before I could properly thank them.

I've also learned that the Japanese language is HARD! Americans who live here 40 years still struggle. There are three kinds of script. Their years are counted from the beginning of an emporer's reign, so saying 1965, requires a consultation between them to figure out the year! I have learned to count to 10 and say thank you, but I can't imagine learning the ...
