Leaving our bags at the hotel we took taxis to the railway station for the shinkansen, or bullet train. We were surprised to see that it was snowing as we hadn't expected snow as far south as Kyoto. It had been cold and we had been glad of our lined walking trousers, thermals hats and thick gloves to insulate us as we explored the temples etc but we had not expected snow. ... other fauna that this pool seems to attract is the professional photographer, and their behavior was much more interesting. Wandering through the station, probably not surprisingly there was the highest ratio of foreigners to locals than I'd seen in all my trips to Japan. Also not surprisingly, every one of said foreigners, except for us, spoke with an American accent, and was carrying a snowboard.
