The expert who was demonstrating his craft to us finished a one liter bottle, during the 25 minutes we watched and opened a second. Quite a job! Despite the imbibing, he did produce incredibly skilled and beautiful work!

... are some modern fountain sculptures, the Plague column and pretty coloured historical buildings along its edges. We must have a thing about going to places undergoing construction, because much of the old town was undergoing some pretty major refurbishment work so there were tractors and diggers and scaffolding blocking some streets. ... subject of signs, it's very pleasing to see very few traffic or other signs around, no sign clutter!! There's a lot to like about this part of Germany, the people are helpful, friendly, courteous to cyclists and go quietly about their work. This is the second time we've stayed in Bayerische Eisenstein, the first at Sporthotel Brennes. Wow! Chalk and cheese. Sporthotel was very basic, and we were the only guests off season so the hotel was undergoing a deep clean so no sauna, pool, solarium or restaurant. Pension Élan is much closer to town and is more comfortable. The hosts are incredibly welcoming and speak good English, our room is comfortable and the two saunas working and nice. Drinks availavable, parking, tv, robe - generally fab. Would definitely stay again
