      ... was homemade?), and the "park rangers" functioned more as gift shop cashiers than as park experts.

      Because the day was so nice, we chose an alternate route out of the park in order to visit the little onsen (hot springs) town, We hiked back down the mountain, through the park forest, along the river. It felt so restorative to spend so much time in the woods -- what a treat for these two PNW peeps!

      ... the Alps

      29th
      Today we decide to walk the main street and see the Zenkoji Temple. Well we are in for a great surprise. There is a huge parade heading to the temple, and we have arrived just before it starts. The route is lined with very talented Japanese drummers along the way playing some very addictive beats.
      We follow the parade up to the Temple where it is packed with thousands of people, and plenty of TV crew. Its ...

      Back to the hotel for a quick pack up and then the long journey back to Tokyo airport with bus, bus, train, train, bus. All a lot of fun in Japan and that probably sums up Japan. The people are the most polite and respectful I’ve ever met. Everything is very different but really interesting and it’s definitely a country that I’d like to come back to.       ... green run that zig zagged through the woods and the kids and sinead loved it. I decided to do the middle section of the Olympic downhill course and it was stunning – perfect snow, empty piste, steep as hell – just point down and hope for the best!

      ... a good Japanese lunch and then back off with just us to the top of the mountain and after a few runs, again back down the mountain. Thomas found that he loves moguls so on the really steep slope at the bottom he literally pointed his skis straight down and bounced over each mogul. Absolutely no idea how he stayed up but he now wants to only ski moguls. Isabel took a more leisurely route ...
