    ... me onto the bus bound for kanbayashi onsen. Similarly to the previous two days the weather was miserable on the 40 minute bus ride, with clouds hanging low over the mountains that surround Nagano. This made me thankful that I had decided against visiting Mt Fuji today as it would have been totally immersed in cloud.     The travel plans today were going to be quite simple. At 10am, we were taking the Shinkansen from Nagano to Matsumoto, arriving at 10.49am. We were going to Matsumoto Castle, then back to Nagano and to Zenkoji temple.

    The hotel had organised a morning walk at 6.30am. We were driven to near Kurobe River to see the sunrise at the gorge. There were monkeys playing and sitting on the road. Some didn't care that a car/bus was coming along and continued grooming. The Kurobe Gorge is the largest V-shaped gorge in Japan.

    ... br> Heavy dinner again with even more food than the previous night. Unbelievable food. The rice had been harvested only a few days ago. I have not tasted rice this good before. Needless to say, I couldn't eat the sashimi and couldn't offload it to anyone else. i did boil one piece of tuna in the soup and it tasted OK.

    ... and I didn't touch and dessert was mango pudding and some small Japanese plums that tasted like a mix between plums and grapes. Joseph and the pudding and I had his plums.

    After dinner, it was back to the room for more laundry. The staff had made our beds up and rolled out the futons. I should have placed another mattress underneath. Just having only one futon was a little hard. It will be two tomorrow night.
