... the onsen. It really was a brilliant experience and well worth the 3300yen (roughly £20) I had paid to get there and the drenching I had got on the way. On the coach journey back the sky had cleared up slightly, allowing for full views of the impressive mountainous scenery and orchard fields that surround the basin in which Nagano sits. Tomorrow I plan to have a brief look around Nagano before heading to Matsumoto to visit the castle ...

... photos without anyone else being there. The main sanctum was divided into the inner and the outer. The inner sanctum had tatami mats, which meant that you had to take your shoes off first. Since it closed at 4.30pm and we only had 15 minutes left, it wasn't worth going in. We could walk around the outer sanctum till about 6.30pm.

... below. We had to buy a meal ticket first that had your particular food, hand the ticket over and then wait 2 minutes for the food to be heated up in a microwave. I had fried rice for 550 yen and Joseph had his schnitzel or tonkatsu sandwich. After lunch, we made our way back to the Tunnel Trolley Bus station and through to Ogizawa. ... that Owen would make this hotel his usual one in the area as he normally stays at another hotel. The head chef came out as well. They both received their plaudits.

We were offered an early morning tour of the area at 6.30am tomorrow. Most of us said that we would go, so it would be an early start. The tour would only take an hour so we would have to have breakfast on our return and to check out at 8.30am the next day.
