... en shoppen na het skieën. Helaas viel de berglucht rauw op Roos' gestel, zij werd op 2 dagen tijdelijk geveld door migraine. Ons eerste dagtripje was naar het 'snow monkey park'. Onvergetelijk. Het is een natuurlijk heetwaterbassin (Japan is grotendeels vulkaan dus heet water komt op veel plaatsen uit de grond), gevuld met apen! Een groep van zo'n 150 makaken heeft in de jaren 60 ontdekt dat het in een heetwaterbad aangenaam toeven ...

Today we went to a mountain area nearby to visit a waterfall and see (along with many other buses of Japanese tourists) the koyo, the wonderful shades of yellows, oranges, and reds that the trees have right now! The colours are so strong and varied that it is a really beautiful sight.

... Japanese lunch with our hosts, and on our way back we saw an animal on the road: at first I thought it was a dog, but as we got closer and it jumped ahead of us, we realised it was a monkey!!! We didn't see it anymore unfortunately. But here they say that when the monkeys can be seen, it's because they can feel that the rain is coming... hope that's not the ...
Kyoto to Nagano
Mainly travelling today.
We ate breakfast in a Coffee House near our hotel and then caught a taxi to Kyoto Station. From there we took the Hikari Shinkansen to Nagoya and then the Shinano express to Nagano. On the way we passed through Ena again.
Arriving at Nagano we managed to identify our hotel on the city map, a couple of blocks from the station.
