Stranded in the snow

... realised that the snow must indeed be exceptional and that the trains must be disrupted. They were. No trains were going anywhere. We waited for a while to see if the trains would start moving but by 10:00 we were told the situation would be reviewed at 12:00 noon so we all headed across the road from the station to a Starbucks as the cafe at the station was full of other waiting passengers. ... from the taps no one tried the bath. Some of the party got a taxi to a public bath house after we had eaten but we didn't as we were so tired we just wanted to go to bed. ... here would have been useful. Rather unceremoniously, the bus driver opened the doors, took our money and pointed us in the direction of the monkey park, as the hot air escaping from the bus began melting the snow on the footpath outside.

... a lot of cashed-up suburbanites apparently have holiday homes. As a result, a great deal of upscale shopping and outlet stores have popped up, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, in what would appear to be a very successful endeavor to separate these suburbanites, and more than a handful of day-tripping tourists, from some of their cash.
