... on the property), our slick guide came to tell us that 4 slots had opened up for the Art Museum tour (yea, right), so we went on the tour. The art installations consisted of various rooms with static, colored patterns of light projected on the walls. We were told to contemplate the patterns and feel the color emotions. I wasn't too impressed with the artwork, but I was impressed with the artist's ability to wring large amounts of money from a billionaire for some light projections ...

... of January and February, but we got lucky. And because of the remoteness (about a 90 minutes rough drive), each of these bodegas actually involve small villages, providing housing, schools, and churches for the year-round employees and their families.

We hired a local driver named Segio with a 4x4 to take us. Nice guy, with not a lick of english ... ...

... and terrace with an amazing view of the Calchaquí valley. One evening Lynn and I sat on lounge chairs watching the sun set on the cloud shrouded mountains, hawks soaring in a warm breeze, all while quaffing on a bottle of malbec and watching the resident llama chow down on the hotel's vegetable garden. A memorable moment indeed.

Once we got over the pass at 11,300 ft. we entered the Parque Nacional Los Cardones. Now on the other side of the mountains it was clear, dry, and hot. Full-on immense, desolate, desert. Flat valleys of large cactus (cardones) as far as you could see amidst multi-colored rock formations with a backdrop of snow-capped mountain peaks. Absolutely stunning. Finally we had to ...

... a headache but that was manageable with panadol. (Still not sure how I am going to fare in the high altitudes of Bolivia). Cachi has cobblestone streets and beautiful spanish colonial architecture.

We ate lunch at a local grill where you will see from the photos that they cook the food on site in front of you. Wasn't too sure about the big slap of meat hanging ...
